Integrated Pest Management

Bellevue Union School District is committed to providing safe, healthy, and well-maintained learning environments for all students, staff, and visitors. The District follows an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, which emphasizes prevention, monitoring, and environmentally responsible pest control methods.

IPM focuses on long-term prevention and least-toxic solutions, using chemical treatments only when necessary and in accordance with the California Healthy Schools Act.

Our IPM Approach 🛠️

Bellevue Union School District manages pests using the following strategies:

  • Routine inspection and monitoring of school sites

  • Preventive maintenance and sanitation practices

  • Sealing cracks, fixing leaks, and eliminating pest access points

  • Mechanical and physical controls such as traps and barriers

  • Habitat modification and irrigation management

  • Use of least-toxic pesticides only when non-chemical methods are ineffective

The District contracts with a licensed pest management provider (Advanced IPM) and conducts regular inspections and response services.

Healthy Schools Act Compliance 📋

Bellevue Union School District complies fully with the California Healthy Schools Act, including:

  • Annual notification to parents, guardians, and staff of planned pesticide use

  • Posting warning signs before and after pesticide applications

  • Maintaining pesticide application records for at least four years

  • Providing annual training for employees who apply pesticides

  • Submitting required pesticide use reports to the California Department of Pesticide Regulation

Parents, guardians, and staff may request individual advance notification at least 72 hours before pesticide applications.
