George Barcenas started working for BUSD in 2013 as a Media Specialist. He came to this district after being a High School English, Technology, Spanish, and PE teacher for 10 years. George graduated from Pacific Union College in 2002. He also works for the Edtechteam as a presenter for Google Apps for Education. He presented in Arkansas, Wyoming, Texas and across the state of California this past year. He also presents for CUE Computers Using Educators, an organization that brings technology into the classroom. To become a presenter he worked to become Google Certified Educator through levels 1 and 2. In completing those certifications he continued to his education and became 1 out of 5 Google Certified Trainers in Sonoma County. In 2018 He hopes to become a Google Innovator which is a program designed to create a project that will help revolutionize education. He will develop his idea with help from a mentor that will be with George for the whole year supporting and guiding him. His innovator project is to break down the barriers of language from teacher to student using technology in the classroom. Growing up with English being his second language he understands the hurdles that teachers and students have to overcome. Working at BUSD brings his passions for education, technology and student engagement all together. In this district he gets to bring it all together and to repay for all the patience and support he received as a student growing up as a son of immigrants. Here is his dedication to his teacher who changed his life.
