Dual Immersion Program
Based on interest from the BUSD School Board in the Spring of 2015 and a superintendents advisory committee was convened in the Fall of 2015 to investigate the possibility of a dual immersion program in the Bellevue Union School District. The committee was open to all employees of the Bellevue Union School District and ended up consisting of teachers, administrators and one district board member. This committee met 6 times from September 3rd through November 16th, interviewed principals and program coordinators from three local programs, had site visits to five programs in the area with all members visiting at least two locations, as well as doing extensive reading into outcomes for students that attend dual immersion programs and articles on recommended program design.
Through this process it was the unanimous decision of the team to recommend to the board that district move forward with a Dual Immersion school at the Kawana campus in Fall of 2016. This recommendation as well as the research behind it recommendation will be presented to the BUSD Board at the December 8th Board meeting for vote.
